Luxurious beauty treatments don’t need to cost a fortune or come packed with chemical ingredients you can’t even pronounce. We want our food to be wholesome, so why doesn’t that translate into what we put on the outside of our bodies too? Next time your hair is looking limp, dull or lifeless, try one of these hair treatments using ingredients that are good enough to eat:
Olive oil is a great natural moisturizer for your hair and scalp. It’s rich in Vitamin E and helps prevent split ends and breakage. Most of us already have olive oil in the kitchen so it’s a no brainer when your hair is thirsty for some moisture.
How to apply: Warm half a cup of olive oil in a container set inside a bowl of warm water. Massage the warm olive oil into your dry hair and coat evenly. Wrap your hair in a shower cap or towel and let it sit for 30 minutes. Wash and condition as usual.
Coconut oil is often praised for its numerous uses from kitchen applications to beauty treatments. Coconut oil is actually really good for your hair and has been used for centuries as a deep conditioner. It moisturizes your hair shaft, adds shine and softness, and can even help fight dandruff with its anti-fungal properties.
How to apply: Coat your dry hair with coconut oil and wrap it in a shower cap or warm towel. Sit for 30 minutes, then wash and condition.
Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is another one of those miracle ingredients with many applications. It makes a great hair treatment because its acidity matches that of your hair, so it helps balance your hair’s pH level. You can use apple cider vinegar as a hair conditioner to add softness and shine, or to treat dandruff. It also helps remove excess hair product build-up and counters the high alkalinity of hair care products.
How to apply: After you shampoo, rinse your hair with a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water. Use 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar for every liter of water. Rinse and you’re done!
