Your freezer can store amazingly nourishing foods. Just think about it! All of those great frozen vegetables, frozen fruits and frozen grains fit perfectly in there. And when you don’t have time to cook, your freezer is a great place to keep frozen prepared meals, But, Ellie cautions, you have to be smart when choosing the best products. She recommends following these parameters when it comes to selecting the most nourishing, satisfying meal.
The best frozen meal should
- Be an excellent source of lean protein, at least 10 grams.
- Include whole grains – read labels and ingredient lists to be sure.
- Contain at least a 1/2 cup of fruits and/or vegetables.
- Contain less than 500 milligrams of sodium per serving.

Even Ellie knows life is busy and that’s why she stocks her freezer with plenty of nourishing foods. Just what is on her freezer “must-have” list? She recommends stocking up on frozen vegetables, fruits, whole grain bread, whole grain pizza crust and pre-cooked meals.
