Greek yogurt is everywhere these days, and it’s not just a trend – there are some pretty compelling reasons why more people are choosing Greek yogurt over other varieties.

What are those reasons you ask?

Well, Greek yogurt contains the same health benefits as regular yogurt, including a large amount of protein, calcium and active bacterial cultures that promote a healthy tummy. The main difference is that Greek yogurt is strained, which removes a lot of the liquid whey, lactose, and sugar. This makes it a lot creamier than other yogurt varieties, while upping the protein content and lowering the sugar content. Translation: it tastes rather indulgent but it’s actually a better choice for you health-wise than other yogurts (provided you opt for the lower fat versions). For the healthiest choice, look for plain, non-fat Greek yogurt that doesn’t have any added sugars. Then, add your own flavorings to make it interesting!

Some cool things you can do with Greek yogurt:

  • Use it as a base for veggie dip and try adding your favorite herbs and spices. A yummy combo: garlic, dill and parsley.
  • Mix it with a little granola, fruit and honey for a naturally sweet breakfast.
  • Use it as a creamy yet low-fat sandwich spread in place of butter, mayonnaise or cream cheese.
  • Use it as a base for a creamy salad dressing or coleslaw dressing.
  • Use it make a frozen Greek Yogurt treat (try the recipe below!)
