I’ve always been enamored by the bento boxes some parents put together for their children’s lunch. It looks like such a fun way to eat, opening up a box of kid sized portions of star shaped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, sliced fresh fruit and veggies, and snack foods.

But why do kids get to have all the lunchbox fun? Bento box lunches can be for adults too! Seeing your lunch presented in a pretty lunch box will get you excited to stop and break for lunch. And bento boxes don’t take too long to prep, especially if you use Luvo frozen meals as a short cut. Most of them taste just as good cold, or look for bento boxes that allow you to remove sections to reheat in the microwave.

How to Make an Adult Bento Box

To make a bento box using Luvo frozen meals, here’s the formula I use:

Defrosted/microwaved Luvo frozen meal + vegetable + fruit + protein + fat + dessert

Here’s some fun ideas for what to include for each section:

Vegetable

Sliced cucumbers dressed with vinegar, halved cherry tomatoes with basil, roasted broccoli, massaged kale salad, kimchi, snap peas, carrot sticks

Fruit

Mixed berries, strawberries drizzled with balsamic, dried fruit, grapes, apple slices tossed with lemon juice, melon cubes

Protein

Hard boiled egg, cheese cubes, prosciutto, cheese and deli meat roll, edamame, baked tofu cubes

Fat

Salad dressing, nuts, nut butter, avocado tossed with lemon juice, hummus, olives

Dessert

Chocolate chip and dried fruit mix, chocolate truffle, energy bites, yogurt covered pretzels,

Here are some of my favorite ideas:

Hawaiian Un-fried Rice + cucumber slices + mango with chili powder + baked tofu cubes + peanut dressing + chocolate covered coconut

This vegan lunch is packed with tropical flavor! Dip the cucumber slices and tofu cubes in peanut sauce.

So-Cal Kale & Bean + snap peas + grapes  + hard boiled egg + diced avocado in lime juice 

This one is also great served with a side of salsa verde for drizzling over the So-Cal Kale & Bean and hard boiled egg!

Thai Style Green Curry Chicken Noodles + grilled zucchini + banana chips + edamame with soy sauce + almonds + dark chocolate

I love to toss the edamame and almonds in with the curry noodles for extra crunch!
